Ghanaian Gospel artiste Akesse Brempong has said the country needs to pay some more attention to gospel music.

Brempeng, who blends traditional and contemporary styles, said contemporary music is the ideal route to export Ghanaian gospel music outside the country.

Speaking in an interview with Benjamin Akakpo on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Friday, 5 June 2020, the gospel artiste said: “One of the things you can’t deny is that there’s a shift. There’s a shift in the music landscape in Ghana and now gospel music is getting some form of attention.”

“It didn’t use to be like that”, he observed, adding: “We didn’t use to pay much attention to gospel music, but now gospel music is getting some form of attention”.

“Even in the gospel music circles, there’s a shift going on. It used to be traditional gospel, now there’s some light shed on contemporary gospel”.

“And, so, one of the things I believe is that contemporary gospel is that kind of movement that will export the Ghanaian gospel music, so, I believe that some attention needs to be paid to gospel music.  Look at the legends of gospel music that we have in the country and juxtapose them to the attention we pay gospel music, I think it’s small. Gospel music needs more attention.”
