Support your own – Dela Botri to Ghanaians
The founder and leader of Hewale Sounds, a neo-traditional/contemporary band and an internationally-acclaimed musician, Dela Botri, has asked Ghanaians to support locally-produced music.
According to Dela Botri, there is the need for Ghanaians to create the enabling environment for local musicians to thrive since, in his view, Ghanaians appear to be enjoying more Nigerian music than their own.
Speaking on The Big Show on Class 91.3FM on Saturday, 14 September 2019, the traditional musician said foreign nationals will not create the enabling environment for Ghanaian musicians to succeed, therefore, it is incumbent on Ghanaians to do so.
“We have to choose what belongs to Ghana,” he told show host Nana Kwesi Asare.
“If you go out there, people are proud of their own culture and, so, we’ve to start thinking to make our own place, our own country a better place to live in. [There’s] no way Americans'll come and make it for us, we’ve to think of making it ourselves,” Dela Botri stated.
The renowned flutist formed the Hewale sounds 23 years ago. Hewale Sounds specialises in playing traditional and highlife music with their contemporary extensions.
