Teephlow relocating to US ‘bad idea’ – Guru opines, explains 'misunderstanding' between them
According to Guru, if there is any misunderstanding between him and Teephlow, it is simply due to “a miscommunication”.
He also bemoaned Teephlow relocating from his home country Ghana to the United States of America.
He spoke to Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo.
In 2021, Teephlow accused Guru of robbing him of an opportunity to shine.
Guru revealed he initially met Teephlow when he once went to Cape Coast “to perform at a show”.
While there, he narrated: “I discovered there was a young guy, studying at UCC (University of Cape Coast) who was picking up, and I was like: ‘Yo, let me put this young guy on.”
Guru said, “basically,” his intention was to sign Teephlow, supporting him with the goodwill and strength he had garnered as a successful musician at the time.
“We met and had a conversation, but the prelude to the signing failed,” he said cryptically, adding: “At the time, the Alkayida music style was in fashion and everyone was doing it. He did some, and I also did same. He felt what he had done was what I was also copying.”
Guru recalled Shatta Wale also had an Alkayida song but “unfortunately, my version became the most successful”.
Guru said Teephlow was not pleased “because he felt if my Alkayida had become successful, his was supposed to become a hit also.
“His expectation couldn’t work out while mine did. Therefore, there were mixed feelings and whenever he saw me, it felt as though there was a pending issue – it didn’t make sense.”
Guru made it clear, notwithstanding the bad blood, he “naturally loves” Teephlow and is a fan of the latter’s rap talent.
“I listen to his rap and when Da Hammer put him on, I was very happy,” he revealed, remarking: “And he was doing so well, and currently, it appears, he is in the US.
“To me, it’s a bad idea, because he peaked and was rising. Now, if he returns, he would have to start all over again.”
Guru categorically said he has no fight with Forgive hitmaker Teephlow.
