'The Batman' gets release date, but loses Ben Affleck
Affleck tweeted the news himself, saying, "Excited for #TheBatman in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life."
Warner Bros. announced that War for the Planet of the Apes director Reeves was set to direct The Batman in February 2017. Affleck himself was originally slated to direct.
“I have loved the Batman story since I was a child," Reeves said in a Warner Bros. press release at the time. "He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.”
Exactly who will take on one of the most coveted comic book movie roles remains to be seen. The search is on.
