Late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II

The Asanteman Traditional Council has issued a directive for the immediate demolition of all structures—both container and block-built—on the old market site near the Mamponghene Palace in the Ashanti Region.

The order, which was communicated to the Municipal Engineer, is to be executed by the close of today and aims to clear the area to create adequate parking space for dignitaries expected to attend the one-week observance and funeral of the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.

The Traditional Council emphasised that prior notice had already been given earlier in the week, and warned that failure to comply with the directive would have consequences for those affected.

The one-week ceremony and burial of Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, a revered traditional ruler, is expected to draw high-profile guests from across the country, necessitating enhanced logistical and security arrangements, including dedicated parking spaces.

Officials say the directive is part of broader efforts to ensure the solemn event is conducted with dignity, order, and due reverence to the late chief
