2026 Mid-Year Budget Review: Over 900,000 Ghanaians escaped ‘poverty’ in one year – Ato Forson reveals

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that about 950,000 Ghanaians moved out of multidimensional poverty within the past year, describing it as a significant milestone in the country’s social and economic progress.

Delivering the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament, Dr Ato Forson said the improvement reflects the impact of government policies aimed at improving livelihoods and expanding access to essential services.

He noted that the reduction in multidimensional poverty demonstrates progress beyond income levels, covering areas such as education, healthcare and living conditions.

The Finance Minister said government remains committed to sustaining the gains through targeted interventions designed to improve the quality of life and create more opportunities for vulnerable households.
