67-year-old cement seller commits suicide allegedly over missing cement bags

A 67-year-old cement seller identified as Fredrick Adama, alias Fo Yao, has been discovered dead in his bedroom under mysterious circumstances.
The incident happened at Ho Barracks Newtown near Kpenoe in the Volta region.
His lifeless body was discovered after friends broke into his room when repeated calls to his phone went unanswered, something they said was unlike him despite his old age.
Information gathered by classfmonline.com indicates Adama was the one in charge of Chapel Square Cement Depot at Ho Barracks Newtown.
An eyewitness and a co-tenant said Adama was last seen on Monday morning around 7 am, and upon asking him why he closed the shop, he said he was expecting some cement to come before he opened the shop for sales.
Due to his relationship with his customers and the how close his house is to the cement shop, it is common for people to go to his house anytime the shop was not open just to call on him to buy cement but unfortunately, this morning he was nowhere to be found as at 8am to 9am.
The growing concern of customers led to them involving Adama's family members. Upon the arrival of Margaret, a cousin, the deceased was found lifeless and unresponsive in his bedroom.
Preliminary police investigations revealed Adama had hanged himself to death.
Richard Adama disclosed to Class News the owner of the cement depot had recently invited him to help question the deceased over 50 bags of cement which had gone missing.
"About two weeks ago, the owner of the shop called me to help him question my brother over an alleged missing of 50 bags of cement. I questioned by brother but he denied the allegation against him," he said.
"And again just last week, the man called me again over another missing 14 bags of cement and this time the man said my brother must provide the cement or else he will sack him. I pleaded with him to give me time to question him but the issue ended up unresolved."
"So the man said he has started building a single self-contained apartment for him to accommodate him but if the missing cements cannot be traced, then he will be forced to either sack him or allow him to use the money [from the missing cements bags] to finish the building which is currently at the roofing level," he added.
Meanwhile, all these issues were not resolved before Fredrick Adama, alias Fo Yao, ended his own life.
It is unclear if the allegations led him to suicide.
The body has been transported to the Ho Teaching Hospital mortuary for further examination, as investigations continue.
The incident has left the community in shock, with many awaiting answers about what led to the untimely demise.
The late Fredrick Adama left behind an 11-year-old daughter.
