A/R: GWL shuts down Odaso Treatment Plant over power fault, water supply disrupted in Obuasi
The management of Ghana Water Limited (GWL) in the Ashanti Region has announced the temporary shutdown of the Odaso Water Treatment Plant following power supply challenges.
According to a press release dated February 16, 2026, the plant was shut down effective Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 10 AM, due to a faulty transformer at Sewhi Asarenso, which supplies electricity to the production facility.
Engineers from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are currently working to rectify the fault and restore power to enable operations at the treatment plant to resume.
Communities expected to be affected by the disruption include Bidieso, Nyameso, Brahabebome, Kokoteasua, Abompekrom, Boete, Akaporiso, Tutuka, Anyinam and surrounding areas.
Management apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that water supply would be restored immediately once power is reinstated and plant operations resume.
For further enquiries, the public may contact the Ashanti Region PR and Communication Officer, Mr Ebenezer Padi Narh, on 055 300 3299 or via email at [email protected].
