A/R: Parliament reacts to devastating fire outbreak in Adum-Kumasi

A devastating fire at Adum-Kumasi in the Ashanti Region has left widespread destruction, reducing numerous shops to ashes and causing billions of cedis in losses.
The disaster has sparked national concern and prompted Parliament to take action.
Kofi Obiri Yeboah, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, raised the issue on the floor of Parliament, describing the scene as "the worst of all that has happened in this country."
He lamented the plight of market women who lost their livelihoods, calling for urgent intervention.
The fire has reignited discussions on the rising frequency of fire outbreaks across the country.
Edem Agbana, MP for Ketu North, called for bold solutions to prevent such tragedies.
However, he cautioned against politicizing the disaster, particularly in light of claims that linked it to "Dumsor" (power outages).
He urged authorities to conduct thorough investigations and provide a clear explanation for the cause of the fire.
Samuel Awuku, MP for Akuapim North, also weighed in, emphasizing that the situation demands more than just words of solidarity.
He called for practical measures to enhance fire safety and disaster response nationwide.
As investigations continue, the incident has intensified calls for improved fire prevention strategies, better infrastructure, and swift support for affected traders
