Accra Court grants ¢50,000 bail to blogger Samuel Amadotor
An Accra Circuit Court has granted blogger Samuel Amadotor of Dklassgh bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two sureties, after he was arraigned for allegedly publishing false information said to have tarnished the reputation of Okatakyie Boakye Danquah Ababio II, former Board Chairman of the National Communications Authority (NCA).
Presiding Judge Justice Evelyn Asamoah charged Amadotor with two counts:
1. Publication of false news with intent to cause fear and panic, contrary to Section 208(1) of the Criminal Offences Act (Act 29).
2. Publication of false news, contrary to Section 123 of the Electronic Transactions Act (Act 772).
Amadotor, however, pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Police reports indicate that the blogger was arrested at his residence after allegedly posting online stories and videos deemed injurious to the reputation of Ababio.
Following submissions from both prosecution and defence, the court granted bail, though it did not provide specific reasons for the decision.
Speaking after proceedings, Amadotor’s lawyer, Jerry Avenorgbo, expressed satisfaction with the court’s ruling.
The case is expected to proceed as scheduled, with the trial continuing after Amadotor’s release on bail.
