Affordable internet dialogue launched
The Internet Forum is an annual event by the Ministry of Communication (MoC) which assembles stakeholders within Ghana's internet landscape to discuss the challenges facing the governance of the internet space and how to address the challenges through a multi-stakeholder approach.
The event will be held on 10 and 11 July 2019 in Accra with a communiqué being issued after the event to be presented to the government and other stakeholders in the communication sector.
According to the Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Ghana Internet Governance Forum, Nana Kofi Asafu-Aidoo, although Ghana is a market economy, strategies need to be fashioned out to reduce the expensive internet services.
Speaking to Class91.3FM’s Jerry Akornor on the sidelines of the launch, Mr Asafu-Aidoo said the forum is to come up with an advocacy paper that proposes ways to minimise the high cost of internet.
"When the forum meets, we can come up with an advocacy paper or a communiqué which we can present to the necessary stakeholders as well as the government to inform policy,” he said.
Meanwhile, the President of the Ghana Chapter of the Internet Society, Marcus Adomey, says a resolution will be passed based on the communiqué to be tabled before the Telecom Chamber to make internet affordable.
