Volta Hotel fails to meet requirement for 3 star hotel over mismanagement and bad leadership

A group of concerned staff at  Volta Hotel in the Eastern Region have issued a strong petition to management, highlighting a series of urgent operational and financial challenges threatening the viability of the company.

In a letter dated June 30, 2025, addressed to the leadership of AHL, the staff raised red flags over what they described as persistent managerial failures and poor financial oversight that have plagued the institution for more than eight years.

The petition paints a bleak picture of an organisation in decline, with mounting losses, a toxic work culture, and deteriorating competitiveness in the hospitality market.

Among the key concerns raised are:

Absence of strategic direction for both Volta Hotel and Dodi World;

Limited hospitality expertise within senior management;

Weak financial discipline and lack of planning;

High staff turnover due to micromanagement and poor leadership;

Alleged financial mismanagement in past projects, including the hotel swimming pool, Dodi drainage system, hotel refrigeration, and vehicle rentals;

Inequitable salary structure and unresolved rent, utility, and pension arrears.

The petition also accuses the Finance Manager of wielding excessive control over AHL operations, often sidelining the General Manager, and creating a system lacking in financial transparency and accountability. Staff further alleged interference by the Human Resources Manager in decision-making processes, resulting in internal conflicts and stagnation.

In a detailed list of recommendations, the staff proposed immediate reforms including:

Appointment of a seasoned hospitality professional to steer AHL back to profitability;

Introduction of cost-control measures, dynamic room pricing, and revenue diversification strategies;

Investment in digital marketing, renovations, and customer loyalty initiatives;

Regular staff training and a fair, transparent salary structure to boost morale and performance.

They also called for the revitalisation of Dodi World and stronger collaborations with local businesses and tour operators to improve market appeal.

The petitioners expressed concern over AHL’s declining reputation in the competitive Akosombo hospitality space and warned that without urgent intervention, the company risks further financial decline and possible collapse.
