Appiah names 29-man squad without Gyan

Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah, has released a 29-man provisional squad for pre-Afcon camping in Abu Dhabi next month.

The list, purported to have been submitted to the Normalisation Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Monday, has a balance of experienced and youthful players, with the inclusion of three local-based players.

In the goalkeeping department, former WAFA shot stopper, Razak Abalora of Azam FC of Tanzania, is the only addition to the trio of Richard Ofori, Lawrence Ati Zigi and Felix Annan.

Also, Columbus Crew duo, Jonathan Mensah and Harrison Afful, made the squad, while Yaw Yeboah and Ebenezer Ofori also make a return, with youngster Samuel Owusu also earning his first call-up.

Conspicuously missing from the squad is Asamoah Gyan, who announced his retirement from the national team on Monday.

Goalkeepers: Richard Ofori, Lawrence Ati Zigi, Felix Annan, Razak Abalora.

Defenders: Kassim Nuhu, Jonathan Mensah, Musah Nuhu, Joseph Aidoo, Mohammed Alhassan, Lumor Agbeyenu, Harrison Afful, Baba Rahman, Andy Yiadom.

Midfielders: Kwadwo Asamoah, Thomas Partey, Andre Ayew, Afriyie Acquah, Mubarak Wakaso, Ebenezer Ofori, Yaw Yeboah, Abdul Fatawu Safiu, Thomas Agyepong, Samuel Owusu.

Strikers: Emmanuel Boateng, Jordan Ayew, Majeed Waris, Caleb Ekuban, Kwabena Owusu.
