Asantehene successfully concludes crucial 3hr mediation between Mamprusi and Kusasi factions over long-standing Bawku conflict
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has successfully concluded the crucial mediation session between the Mamprusi and Kusasi factions concerning the long-standing conflict in Bawku.
The three-hour meeting, held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, appears to have ended positively, evidenced by jubilation from both sides of the divide upon its conclusion.
The peaceful outcome was hinted at by the jubilant mood of supporters who had gathered outside the palace gates.
In preparation for the high-stakes meeting, security was heavily intensified at the palace.
A joint deployment of military and police forces provided a tight cordon around and within the palace grounds.
Supporters of the two factions were not permitted inside the Manhyia Palace and waited outside for the duration of the talks.
Despite the positive news of the mediation, there were minor skirmishes between supporters of the rival factions waiting outside the Palace.
The swift and immediate intervention of the joint security forces quickly brought the situation under control, restoring order.
As commissioned by President Mahama, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is now expected to officially brief the president on the outcome and the details of the negotiated resolution.
