A human rights group, the CHEVS Organisation, has staged a protest against the passage of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, commonly referred to as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, currently awaiting presidential assent.

The demonstration comes after Parliament on Friday, May 29, 2026, approved the legislation, which seeks to regulate issues related to human sexuality and family values.

The group argues that the bill undermines fundamental human rights, regardless of an individual’s gender identity or sexual orientation.

Speaking to the media during the protest, the Lead Advocacy Advisor for CHEVS Organisation, Robert Akoto Amoafo, said the group will continue to resist any legislative efforts they believe infringe on human rights.

He stressed that the organisation rejects any attempt to curtail civil liberties and fundamental freedoms in the country.

The protest adds to ongoing national and international debate surrounding the bill, which has generated strong reactions from both supporters and opponents since its passage in Parliament.
