Yamin: Does NPP's digitalisation drive cure malaria?
The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has downplayed the essence of the much-touted digitalisation drive of the government, spearheaded by Vice-president Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
The NDC is raising some questions about the purposefulness of digitalisation to the lives of the ordinary Ghanaian when petrol is being sold at almost GHS30 a gallon.
“Digitalisation in the face of the vast majority of Ghanaians not being able to afford two square meals a day; is that achievement?” former deputy Ashanti regional secretary of the party, Mr Joseph Yamin quizzed.
“Does the Vice-president’s digitalisation drive have a cure for malaria when people fall sick in the country? Has the digitalisation drive built schools for students to be enrolled? And what is digitalisation doing about the mass unemployment rate in the country?” he asked further.
The former Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, who is now vying for the position of National Organiser of the NDC, raised these questions about the government’s digitalisation drive in an interview on Accra-based Happy FM on Tuesday, 9 November 2021.
He said the Vice-president is out there applauding himself for the digitalisation agenda yet when the government is questioned about economic mismanagement, the NPP is quick to blame the COVID-19 pandemic for its inability to manage the economy.
He noted that the United States of America is one of the countries hardest hit by COVID-19 yet the US is producing vaccines and vaccinating its people and not blaming COVID-19 for the country's economic woes.
“As a country, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) gave us GHS1 billion during the pandemic and the government used it to cook for NPP supporters at the cost of GHS40 billion a day for Accra and Kumasi,” he alleged.
