Concerned Small Scale Miners Association pays tribute to helicopter crash victims

In an official statement signed by President Michael Kwadwo Peprah, the Association described the incident as a profound national loss, particularly given the mission the victims were undertaking — the launch of the Government’s Cooperative Mining Scheme.
The deceased included:
Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology
Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Lemu, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman, National Democratic Congress
Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Former Parliamentary Candidate, Obuasi East
Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Ghana Air Force
Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, Ghana Air Force
Sergeant Ernest Addo, Ghana Armed Forces
The Association emphasised that the delegation was on a national mission to support the Cooperative Mining Scheme, an initiative designed to promote responsible and sustainable small-scale mining and improve livelihoods within the sector.
“We are profoundly saddened by the untimely loss of eight lives in service to our nation.
Their commitment to national development, particularly in the mining sector, will be remembered with honour and gratitude,” the statement read.
The Association also extended sympathies to President John Dramani Mahama, the Ghana Armed Forces, the bereaved families, and the entire nation.
In a heartfelt call to action, Mr. Peprah urged all Ghanaians—especially those within the mining community—to renew their commitment to safe, responsible, and legal mining practices in honour of the legacy of those who died in the line of duty.
“Let us draw valuable lessons from this tragedy and continue to support government efforts to build a sustainable and inclusive mining industry,” the statement concluded.
