EC: Adventists push for a change in voting day

The leadership of the Seventh Day Adventists in the country has held a meeting with the Electoral Commission boss with the aim of pushing for a change of the country's national voting day.
The Adventist Church leaders in Ghana held the meeting with the EC on June 7, 2023.
EC Chairperson Jean A. Mensa promised the leaders that going forward, the Commission would consider the Adventist proposal of a change from the December 7 date to another day in the election month.
The church is pushing for a date change to ensure that general elections are no longer held on any religious day of worship in Ghana.
The Adventist delegation was made up of the two Union Presidents, Pastors Kwame Annor Boahene and Thomas Techie Ocran.
Other members were Pastor Chris Annan Nunoo, Pastor Peter Osei Mensah, Mr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije (MP), Dr Solace Asafo, Nii Ayite Hammond and Yaw Adomako Baafi, the New Patriotic Party's communications member.
