EC Deputy chair Bossman Asare resigns; Samuel Tettey retires
Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) responsible for Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bossman Asare, has tendered his resignation and will officially leave office on July 31, 2026.
The development was disclosed by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu during the Government Accountability Series held on Monday, June 15.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu also announced that the EC's Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, has retired from the Commission.
Providing details of Dr. Asare's decision, the Government Spokesperson said the outgoing deputy chair indicated in his resignation letter that he intends to return to academic life and resume his professional responsibilities at the University of Ghana.
He noted that Dr. Asare expressed gratitude to the President and the Ghanaian public for the opportunity to serve on the Electoral Commission during his tenure.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu further revealed that steps are already underway to fill the vacancies created by the departure of the two senior officials. According to him, a nominee has been submitted to the Council of State for consideration as part of the replacement process.
He explained that an announcement on Mr. Tettey's successor will be made after the Council of State concludes its consultations. A separate process will subsequently be initiated to appoint a replacement for Dr. Asare.
The Electoral Commission is expected to communicate additional information regarding the transition and succession arrangements in the coming weeks.
