EC holds district-level polls in Jasikan, Guan Dec. 19

The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared that it will conduct District Level Elections (DLEs) in the Jasikan and Guan Districts on December 19, 2023, following the enactment of the Constitutional Instrument (CI) granting authority for the exercise in these districts.
Due to the non-receipt of nominations in the Jasikan and Guan Districts on November 16 and 17, 2023, respectively, a result of the then-unmatured CI 119, the EC has scheduled the DLEs in these areas.
In a statement released on December 4, 2023, the EC outlined that Nomination Forms can be obtained at the Jasikan and Guan District Offices or through the Electoral Commission's website.
Completed forms must be submitted in quadruplicate, along with two post-card-sized photographs, to the Returning Officer of the respective Electoral Area from December 7 to December 8, 2023, the EC noted.
Nominations for District Assembly Elections must be witnessed by the signatures or marks of the Proposer and Seconder, supported by eighteen other residents registered to vote in the Electoral Area.
Also, it said: "Nominations for the Unit Committee Elections shall be witnessed by the signatures or marks of the Proposer and the Seconder and supported by eight other people who are residents and registered to vote in the Electoral Area".
The EC directed all election-related inquiries to be addressed to the District Officers of the Electoral Commission in the Jasikan and Guan Districts.
