ECG announces 5-day maintenance, widespread power outages to hit Accra and Tema
Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has outlined a five-day maintenance exercise that will disrupt electricity supply to numerous residential areas, commercial centres, and industrial zones across Accra and surrounding districts from Sunday, 1 March, to Thursday, 5 March 2026.
The company says the mix of planned and emergency works is aimed at strengthening infrastructure and improving long-term reliability, acknowledging that the upgrades will cause temporary outages. In public notices, ECG stated the exercise is necessary to “improve service delivery” and apologised for the inconvenience.
Work begins Sunday with a six-hour shutdown at Trassaco Valley Enclave in the Greater Accra Region, while a broad industrial stretch along Western Road in Tema will experience a total cut, affecting major firms such as Early Power, Apollo Steel, Tropical Cable and Cal Bank. At the same time, emergency repairs will hit Accra West locations including La, Darkuman and Kokompe.
Tuesday, 3 March, is expected to be the most disruptive, with simultaneous outages in three zones: Accra East (Santana Market, Zion Police Station, Teshie Camp 2, Labone and Dome Pillar 2), Tema (Spintex Kotobabi, Community 11’s Monte Carlo area and Community 3), and Accra West (Red Top, Old Barrier and Kings University College).
The final phase on Thursday will stretch across multiple communities, with Tema outages extending from Jericho and Adjei Kodjo to the coastal areas of Ada Foah, Big Ada and Aqua Safari Resort. Accra East will cover Ashongman Estate, Oyarifa and Ashiyie, while Accra West areas such as Medie, Sarpeiman, Tabora and Tantra Hills’ Rockstar Area face up to eight hours without power.
ECG has advised customers to treat all installations as live since supply may be restored earlier than scheduled, and urged businesses, particularly in industrial zones, to adjust operations to protect equipment.
