ECG assures customers of accurate metering and billing, calls for independent verification by GSA
The Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG) has moved to reassure prepaid and postpaid customers over the integrity of its metering and billing systems, insisting that all deployed meters undergo strict testing and certification before installation.
In a press release dated March 3, 2026, issued from its head office in Accra, the power distributor said it had taken note of recent concerns raised by sections of the public and other stakeholders about the accuracy of electricity meters and billing processes.
According to ECG, every meter used within its network is subjected to comprehensive laboratory testing and calibration to ensure precision.
The company stated that its quality assurance procedures meet both national and international standards, adding that its meter testing laboratory is equipped to match leading facilities globally.
The utility further disclosed that all meters are independently verified and certified by the Ghana Standards Authority(GSA) before they are deployed to customers.
While expressing confidence in the reliability of its systems, ECG acknowledged that some consumers may still have legitimate concerns. It said investigations into complaints have already begun, in line with directives from the Minister for Energy and Green Transition.
As part of efforts to promote transparency and accountability, the company has formally requested the GSA to independently and randomly test meters both in the laboratory and in the field. ECG indicated that the findings from the exercise will form part of a report to be submitted to the sector minister.
The company reiterated its commitment to responsive service delivery and pledged continued engagement with customers and stakeholders.
The statement was signed by William Boateng, Acting Director of Communications at ECG.
