Emulate “incorruptible” Kwabena Adjei – Speaker

News
Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye has chided corrupt politicians in the country and urged them to follow the footsteps of the late Majority Leader of Parliament Dr Kwabena Adjei who was the National Chairman of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) before his death.

Dr Adjei will be buried on Saturday, 1 June 2019.

His remains were laid in state in parliament on Friday, 31 May 2019, ahead of his burial.

In a eulogy, Prof Oquaye said Dr Adjei “was honest”, adding that: “He was not corrupt”.

“I follow Ghanaian politics and I'm saying this in public: he was not corrupt,” Prof Oquaye said, adding that: “It is a quality we need for men and women in public life”.

Professor Oquaye further stated that the former NDC Chair “was a man who was principled and showed in his various activities and actions that he went by his convictions. He could be wrong but he was convinced and sincere about the steps he took”.

Dr Adjei died at 76 at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital in Accra on 12 March 2019.

Popularly referred to as "Wayoo! Wayo!", Dr Adjei succeeded Dr Obed Asamoah as NDC Chair in 2005 and guided the party to victory in the 2008 elections, which were won by the late President J.E.A. Mills.
