Ex-Pres Kufour's nephew attempted to bribe me with $10k – Hanna Bissiw-Kotei

Kwabena Kufuor, nephew of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, has been accused of offering a $10,000 bribe to Dr Hanna Bissiw-Kotei, the newly-appointed Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund (MDF), in an attempt to silence her concerning an allegedly inflated office rental agreement worth $1.4 million.
She clarified she did not accept the bribe but “I took the money and reported it. So the money is there”.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Afternoon Ghana with Kwasi Afriyie, Dr Bisiw-Kotei noted Mr Kufour owned the said office space.
She said over a span of 12 years, former administrators had been paying $9,600 per month in rent for the space.
Alarmed over the cost, she underlined the office was merely “a cubicle,” pointing out the facility was in poor state, too.
“Our directors had to keep their files on the floor due to a lack of drawers and cabinets,” she cited.
To contextualise the severity of the alleged inflation of rent fee, she said a more upscale facility nearby was rents for approximately $6,500 per month, highlighting concerns over the inflated rental cost.
“We had staff we couldn’t pay, communities we couldn’t serve, and vehicles with expired insurance and DVLA documents,” she lamented, highlighting how the exorbitant rent fee ate away funds for core operations.
The MDF administrator emphasised her commitment to quality work ethic and accountability, denouncing financial malfeasance and corruption.
