The Ghana Police Service has received a major boost to its crime-fighting capabilities following the official delivery of 40 newly acquired armoured vehicles to support national security operations.

The fleet, which includes 15 modern armoured carriers and 25 high-grade Cobra vehicles, was presented by the government as part of efforts to strengthen security enforcement across the country.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, described the intervention as a critical step toward advancing policing logistics nationwide.

According to the IGP, police personnel are increasingly facing sophisticated threats from criminal gangs, making it essential for the service to be equipped with robust protective and operational resources.

“Our officers are exposed to life-threatening situations during operations.

Having the right logistics is non-negotiable if we are to confront dangerous criminal networks and protect the lives of our men and women,” he emphasised.

He commended the President for prioritising the retooling of security agencies under the national reset agenda, stating that the acquisition of the armoured fleet reflects the government’s genuine commitment to safeguarding security personnel and enhancing law enforcement efficiency.

The IGP noted that the new vehicles will significantly enhance officer protection, improve mobility, and transform operational strategies in tackling crime across the country.

He revealed that the Service will soon launch intensified and well-coordinated operations to dismantle remaining criminal networks, many of whom have retreated in response to recent heightened police activity.

Issuing a strong caution to criminal elements, he warned that the Police Service is now fully equipped and more prepared than ever to confront and neutralise threats to national security.
