Human Sexual Rights & Family Values Bill 2025: Parliament set to deliberate in upcoming session

The 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana is gearing up for its third sitting, scheduled to commence tomorrow, Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
Parliament will give significant attention to social and family issues.
The highlight of the session will be the presentation and discussion of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, a legislative proposal that has garnered considerable attention and debate across the nation.
This landmark bill, which is now ready for presentation, aims to define and protect what has been called human sexual rights while reinforcing what is believed to be Ghanaian traditional family values.
Advocates argue that the bill seeks to establish a clear legal framework that upholds individual rights related to sexuality, privacy, and dignity, while also promoting societal stability by emphasising the importance of family structures rooted in cultural and moral values.
The bill’s introduction is expected to stimulate vigorous discussions among lawmakers, civil society, and the general public, as it touches on sensitive issues such as sexual rights, morality, and the role of family in Ghanaian society.
Supporters believe that the legislation will serve as a vital step towards safeguarding human rights, reducing social conflicts, and promoting community cohesion.
Critics, however, are calling for careful deliberation to ensure that the bill balances individual freedoms with cultural norms and does not infringe on personal liberties.
