IGP meet stakeholders ahead of Akwatia by-election to strengthen security measures

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, together with members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), has met with key stakeholders ahead of the upcoming Akwatia By-Election to deliberate on security preparations.
The engagement, held on Tuesday, 19th August 2025, provided an opportunity for the Police Service to brief political parties on security plans for the polls and listen to their concerns.
Party representatives welcomed the dialogue and emphasised the need for fairness and transparency in security deployment to boost public confidence in the process.
This meeting followed earlier consultations by the Police with the Electoral Commission (EC) on 12th August 2025.
That session focused on strengthening coordination between the Police and the EC to ensure smooth operations before, during, and after the by-election.
The EC also presented its operational roadmap for the polls.
On 13th August 2025, the Police further engaged the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG) at the National Police Headquarters.
IDEG underscored the importance of transparency, stakeholder collaboration, and effective security measures in safeguarding the credibility of the election.
The Ghana Police Service has assured that it will continue to engage all relevant stakeholders in the lead-up to the by-election, with the aim of maintaining peace, law, and order throughout the electoral process.
