Jerry Ahmed Shaib denies viral fake quote, demands retraction and apology

Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe and 2nd Deputy Minority Whip, Mr. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has strongly denied a viral story attributing a controversial statement to him, describing the report as false, malicious, and defamatory.
The story, which has been circulating on social media platforms and appeared on opra.news, carried the headline: “I Dare My NPP—I’ll Sell My Seat If Bawumia Is Mistakenly Elected as Flagbearer.” Mr. Shaib has categorically denied ever making such a statement or granting any interview to that effect.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 21, 2025, the MP described the report as a “blatant case of irresponsible journalism and the spread of fake news,” warning that the publication was aimed at misleading the public and causing division within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
"I have not granted any interview—formal or informal—expressing such views. The story is entirely false and clearly intended to lower my hard-earned reputation before right-thinking members of society," he said.
He also pointed out that the platform failed to provide any evidence of the alleged interview, such as time, location, or medium, which he says further exposes the fictitious nature of the report.
Mr. Shaib is demanding an immediate halt to the circulation of the false story, a full retraction, and an unqualified public apology from the media outlet through the same channels it used to publish the misinformation.
He warned that failure to comply would leave him with no choice but to initiate legal action to protect his integrity and the dignity of the office he holds.
