Musician-turned-politician, Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus), has said he would appoint the founder of the Despite Group, Mr Osei Kwame Despite as a Minister of Trade if he were the president of Ghana.

According to A Plus, Mr Despite has the track record of successfully establishing and growing businesses and will, therefore, perform well as a minister of trade.

According to him, Ghanaian leaders focus only on people with high qualifications for the appointment rather than looking for people with a track record.

“One of the serious problems in this country is common sense”, A Plus said.

“If I become president of Ghana today, I will appoint Osei Kwame Despite as the Minister of Trade and Industry and Fadda Dickson Narh as the Director General of GBC. They have the track record, it is not about people with book [sense], professor, doctor,” he said in an interview on Accra-based Zylofon FM.

He said: “So many people are not doing things with common sense, they do things with book [sense]. One of the great leaders we could have in this country is Jerry John Rawlings. He had a vision, however, he appointed doctors and professors as ministers and they let him down. He appointed people he believed could do the work for him but they did nothing”.
