The main opposition National Democratic Congress’ Member of Parliament for the Nkwanta Constituency in the newly created Oti Region has called on Ghanaians to shun their unbridled zeal for tribalism to make politicians in the country live up to the expectation of the electorate while in government.

The MP, who is a member of the parliamentary select committee on transport, argued that the stark show of tribalism by a cross-section of Ghanaians, is making the government perpetuate economic crimes and get away with it.     

According to Mr John Kwabena Oti Bless, it is about time Ghanaians let go of tribalism and stand up to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his Vice-president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Mr Oti Bless made this call while contributing to discussions on the fuel price hikes and the decision by commercial drivers to ground their vehicles.

Speaking on Accra-based Happy FM on Thursday, 11 November 2021, he said the president and his vice must be told that the country was moving in the wrong direction.

He argued that the president and his vice have, over the years, told “incontrovertible lies” and Ghanaians seem unconcerned about these because of tribalism, religious connections among others”.

Mr Oti Bless explained that until Ghanaians stop tribalism, the country will never move in the right direction. 

He was of the view that when former President John Dramani Mahama and his NDC administration were in government, the pump price of fuel was GHS14 but the likes of Dr Bawumia and the NPP’s MP for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, accused the then-president of being wicked for increasing the price of fuel annually.

“Today, fuel prices are increased weekly and Ghanaians find nothing wrong with it,” he bemoaned.
