President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to roll out a two-day Regional Accountability Series across the country, involving his political appointees, as part of efforts to deepen transparency, citizen participation, and development planning at the local level.

According to the president, the first day of each regional engagement will be dedicated to the inauguration, inspection, and assessment of completed and ongoing development projects, allowing communities to directly evaluate government performance on the ground.

Addressing members of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs during a courtesy call at the Presidency in Accra, President Mahama said the second day of the series will focus on dialogue and accountability, creating a platform for traditional authorities and residents to shape and define their own development priorities.

He explained that the initiative will not be limited to the regional level but will be replicated at the metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies, ensuring that accountability and participatory development reach the grassroots.

As part of the broader development agenda for the Upper East Region, President Mahama also announced that steps are being taken to reactivate the Pwalugu Tomato Factory to resume full operations.

He revealed that farmers within the factory’s catchment areas have been supplied with a new high-yield tomato seed variety with higher flesh content, specifically selected to meet the factory’s processing needs.

The president said the intervention is expected to boost tomato production, reduce post-harvest losses, create jobs, and support agro-industrial growth in the region, while providing a reliable market for local farmers.
