The Majority Leader in Parliament, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has assured Ghanaians that President John Dramani Mahama's directive for an impartial investigation into the recent Obuasi incident will be carried out swiftly and transparently.
Speaking at a press conference in Parliament on Tuesday, 21 January, Dr Forson conveyed the government's commitment to addressing the matter with urgency.
The violent clashes at a mining site in Obuasi, reportedly involving illegal miners, have led to the tragic loss of up to eight lives, sparking widespread concern across the nation.
Dr Forson expressed profound regret on behalf of the government, acknowledging the gravity of the situation and the need for decisive action.
He emphasised President Mahama's dedication to ensuring justice and accountability, stating, "Finally, we wish to assure Ghanaians that pursuant to the directive of His Excellency the President, impartial and timely investigations would be carried out into the Obuasi incident."
The government’s swift response aims to restore public confidence and address the root causes of the unrest in Obuasi, while sending a clear message about its zero-tolerance stance on such incidents.
