President John Dramani Mahama will depart Accra on Sunday, March 1, for Arusha, where he is scheduled to serve as Special Guest of Honour at the official opening of the 2026 judicial year of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

The ceremony, set for Monday, will also mark the launch of the court’s 20th anniversary celebrations under the theme, “20 Years of Service in Protecting Human and Peoples’ Rights in Africa.”

According to a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the invitation makes Mahama the first sitting Ghanaian President to address the African Union court.

While in Tanzania, President Mahama is expected to hold bilateral talks with President Samia Suluhu Hassan, focusing on strengthening diplomatic and cooperation ties between the two countries.

President Mahama will return to Ghana immediately after the opening programme on Monday.

In his absence, the Vice President, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, will act as president in line with Article 60(8) of the Constitution.
