Ministry of Food and Agriculture to distribute 40,000 bags of fertiliser and drones to peasant farmers on Tuesday
The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has announced that the Ministry will on Tuesday commence the distribution of 40,000 bags of fertiliser to peasant farmers across the country as part of government’s efforts to boost agricultural productivity and ensure food security.
According to the Minister, the intervention forms part of a broader strategy aimed at supporting smallholder farmers with critical inputs needed to increase crop yields and improve livelihoods. The fertiliser distribution is expected to benefit thousands of farmers, particularly those engaged in the cultivation of staple food crops.
In addition to the fertiliser support, the ministry will also deploy agricultural drones to selected farming communities to enhance modern farming practices. The drones will be used for activities such as crop monitoring, precision spraying, field mapping, and early detection of pest and disease outbreaks.
Eric Opoku emphasised that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to transforming the agricultural sector through technology-driven solutions and targeted support for farmers. He noted that improving access to fertilisers and modern farming technologies remains essential to increasing food production and reducing post-harvest losses.
The Minister further stated that the intervention is expected to contribute significantly to the country’s food security agenda while helping farmers improve efficiency and reduce production costs.
Stakeholders in the agricultural sector have welcomed the announcement, describing it as a timely intervention that will help address challenges faced by farmers and strengthen Ghana’s agricultural value chain.
The Ministry of Food and Agriculture is expected to provide further details on the distribution process, beneficiary selection, and deployment of the drones during the official launch on Tuesday.
