President John Dramani Mahama has announced that a petition submitted against Supreme Court Justice Yonny Kulendi failed to meet the legal requirement of establishing a prima facie case, based on guidance received from the Chief Justice.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. According to the statement, the President acted in accordance with Article 146 of the Constitution by transmitting the petition to the Chief Justice for preliminary assessment.

Following a review of the allegations, the Chief Justice informed the President that the complaint did not satisfy the threshold needed to warrant further inquiry. The President subsequently relayed this outcome to the individual who filed the petition.

As a result, the matter has been closed, with no further investigative or disciplinary steps to be taken, due to the absence of sufficient grounds to proceed.

The petition had accused Justice Kulendi of ethical misconduct, alleging his involvement in issues connected to the prosecution of a relative, despite not being a sitting judge on the case.

The complainant specifically alleged that Justice Kulendi inappropriately influenced proceedings at the High Court in the ambulance procurement case, Republic v. Cassiel Ato Forson & Two Others.

The petition argued that such actions violated multiple provisions of the judicial code of conduct and eroded public trust in the judiciary’s independence, neutrality and integrity.
