The Okada Riders Association of Ghana (ORAG) has praised the Government of Ghana and the Transport Ministry for taking a pivotal step toward the legalisation and regulation of okada operations in the country.

In a press statement dated December 11, 2025, ORAG expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Government, the Director of Transport, and the Minister of Transport, Mr. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, for fulfilling their campaign promise by laying the Okada Legalisation Bill before Parliament on December 10, 2025.

The Association described the move as a “significant milestone” that marks critical progress in efforts to formalise the okada sector.

While acknowledging that the process has taken considerable time, ORAG noted that the journey toward legalisation involved several stages and could not be achieved in a single event.

ORAG commended authorities for their commitment to due process and looked ahead to the mandatory 21-day maturity period, during which the bill is expected to undergo thorough deliberations.

The Association expressed hope that Parliament would pass the bill smoothly to benefit the many communities that rely on okada services.

They further urged all Members of Parliament to support the bill, irrespective of political affiliation, stressing the important role okada riders play in transportation across Ghana.

The statement reaffirmed ORAG’s readiness to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the bill’s successful implementation and to promote road safety.
