The One Ghana Movement has strongly condemned the recent wave of violence, vandalism, and looting that have erupted in parts of Ghana following the 2024 presidential election.
In a statement released on December 10, 2024, the group called for decisive leadership, accountability, and a collective effort to safeguard Ghana’s democratic integrity and harmony.
Expressing deep concern over incidents in areas such as Damongo, Awutu Senya, Nsawam, Tamale, Techiman South, and Accra, the movement emphasized that such unrest threatens the peace, stability, and unity of the nation.
“These acts of aggression are a threat to the peace, stability, and unity of our beloved nation,” the statement declared.
The One Ghana Movement commended the peaceful concession of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, describing it as a significant step in Ghana’s democratic progress.
In a statement signed by its Director, Senyo Hosi, the organization reminded Ghanaians that elections are a competition of ideas and policies, not a platform for division, destruction, or violence.
The movement urged President-elect John Dramani Mahama to address the unrest swiftly and decisively, calling on him to publicly condemn the acts of violence carried out in his name.
As the symbol of national unity, the President-elect was encouraged to rally all Ghanaians against violence, lawlessness, and vandalism.
“We call on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to take immediate and decisive action to address this unrest,” the statement emphasized.
Additionally, the group called on Mr. Mahama to work closely with the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to ensure that all perpetrators, regardless of political affiliation, are held accountable.
By taking such measures, the President-elect can reinforce justice, the rule of law, and Ghana’s democratic values.
The One Ghana Movement also called on outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to direct the Ghana Police Service to restore calm and order in affected areas.
It urged law enforcement to act impartially and decisively by arresting and prosecuting those responsible for inciting or engaging in violent acts.
The movement appealed to citizens to channel their energy into building a prosperous and united nation founded on respect for democratic principles and the rule of law.
It encouraged politicians, community leaders, and citizens to embrace a spirit of togetherness, reminding Ghanaians of their shared responsibility to preserve peace for future generations.
In its closing remarks, the One Ghana Movement called for unity during this moment of uncertainty, urging all stakeholders to work hand-in-hand to protect the nation’s peace and stability.
