One dead, 16 injured in Peki Tsame road accident in the Volta Region
One person has lost their life and 16 others are receiving medical care after a traffic accident along the Peki–Asikuma stretch, near Peki Tsame close to Mawutor Inn.
The crash involved a Toyota Hiace bus, registration number GT 7012-24, which reportedly veered off the road and overturned after one of its rear tyres burst.
In a statement shared on Friday, February 13, the Ghana National Fire Service said officers from the Peki Fire Station responded promptly to the distress call. The rescue team, led by ADO I Godwin Gbedemah, worked to free passengers who were trapped in the wreckage.
The injured — comprising eight men, seven women, and a child — were handed over to the National Ambulance Service and conveyed to the Peki Government Hospital for treatment.
According to the Fire Service, one of the victims later died while receiving medical attention. The remaining injured passengers are reported to be in stable condition.
Investigations are expected to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
