The Progressive Alliance of Ghana (PAG) has expressed profound sorrow over the deaths of six young Ghanaians during a security service recruitment exercise at El-Wak Sports Stadium, describing the incident as a "national wake-up call" on youth unemployment.

In a statement released on Thursday, the political party extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and expressed concern for the five individuals receiving intensive care and twelve others in critical condition following Tuesday's stampede.

Dr. John Kpikpi, the 2024 Presidential Candidate of PAG, stated that the tragedy reflects "a much deeper national problem" – the growing desperation among thousands of unemployed youth seeking opportunities.

"The sheer number of applicants who turned up at El-Wak is not merely a statistic; it is a loud cry for hope from a generation that feels left behind," the statement read.

The Alliance called for urgent government action to address unemployment through industrial growth, private sector empowerment, and agricultural modernisation, emphasising that "Ghana's development cannot progress while its energetic young men and women remain idle and desperate."

PAG also demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to the stampede and urged authorities to ensure accountability and implement measures to prevent future occurrences.

"Let us honour the memory of those who died by renewing our commitment to build a nation where every young person has a fair chance to work, thrive, and contribute meaningfully to Ghana's future," the statement concluded.
