Renewable energy: Parliamentary Committee on Energy calls for increased investment in clean energy
As the global transition toward renewable energy gains momentum, the Parliamentary Committee on Energy has called for greater investment in clean energy solutions.
The Committee is urging government to strengthen partnerships with the private sector to expand the production and use of renewable energy, describing it as safer, more reliable, and environmentally sustainable.
The Chairman of Parliament’s Energy Committee, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, made the call when members of the Committee toured Aburi Energy, a free zones energy production company, as part of their oversight responsibilities.
According to the Committee, Ghana must take advantage of the growing opportunities in solar power and other forms of green energy to support sustainable development and enhance energy security.
The Committee commended Aburi Energy for its significant contribution to employment creation and foreign exchange earnings. Members also encouraged the company to increase the use of locally sourced raw materials to ensure that the country derives maximum benefits from the clean energy sector.
The Committee further stressed the importance of safeguarding the welfare and safety of local workers. It assured the company that concerns relating to regulatory frameworks and port operations would be captured in its report to Parliament for consideration.
Chairman Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote renewable energy development and industrial growth.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Aburi Energy, Lawer Ocansey, expressed appreciation to the Committee for the visit and inspection. He also outlined some of the challenges facing the company and called for continued support to enhance operations.
