A six-member delegation led by the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Wengam, has paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lt. Gen. William Agyapong, at the Military Headquarters in Accra.
The visit was to congratulate the CDS on his appointment, formally inform him about the upcoming 2026 World Assemblies of God Congress, and share the rich history and activities of the church.
Delegation
Accompanying the General Superintendent on the visit were Rev. Dr. Ernest Birikorang, General Secretary of Assemblies of God, Ghana; Rev. Dr. Simon Abu Baba, General Treasurer of Assemblies of God, Ghana; Rev. Michael Ayesu, Regional Superintendent of Greater Accra West; Rev. Centenary
Rev. Wengam noted that as Assemblies of God, Ghana prepares to celebrate its centenary, the support of the Ghana Armed Forces would be invaluable, especially in safeguarding peace and ensuring national hospitality for international delegates.
Rev. Wengam also extended his sympathies to the CDS over the recent stampede incident at the El Wak Stadium. He lauded efforts made so far to improve screening processes to prevent future occurrences.
Response, acknowledgement
In response, Lt. Gen. Agyapong pledged the military’s support and collaboration, assuring the delegation of his commitment to the success of the congress. He further requested continuous prayers for the Ghana Armed Forces.
Lt. Gen. Agyapong acknowledged the stampede incident as unfortunate but emphasised that lessons had been learned and corrective measures implemented.
