The Ministry of Works and Housing says it remains on track to deliver the first phase of the Saglemi Affordable Housing Project, targeting 8,000 completed units by the end of 2026, following parliamentary approval of its GHS1.4 billion budget.

However, the Ministry expressed serious concern over the slow release of funds for 2025.

As of October 2025, only GHS360 million of the GHS918 million allocated for capital expenditure had been disbursed by the Ministry of Finance — a shortfall officials say has significantly hampered the execution of key infrastructure projects.

Presenting the Works and Housing Committee’s report on the 2026 budget estimates, Chairman Vincent Oppong Asamoah highlighted major programmes earmarked for next year, including accelerated work on affordable housing, expansion of drainage systems, and upgrading of coastal protection structures.

He emphasised that the timely release of funds will be critical if the Ministry is to meet its delivery timelines, particularly for the Saglemi project, which remains a flagship component of the government’s national housing agenda.
