Student assault case under investigation; victim recovering – DCE
The District Chief Executive for Awutu Senya West District, Hon. Kalala Nyamekye Eghan, has confirmed that Nathaniel Mireku, the Obrachire student who was assaulted during an inter-school competition, has received medical treatment and is currently doing well.
Speaking in an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Chief Jerry Forson, the DCE explained that he personally followed up on the incident when it happened and ensured the student received medical attention.
According to him, the victim, identified as Nathaniel Mireku (also referred to as Nathaneal Meraku), has since returned to school and is in stable condition.
Hon. Nyamekye described the incident as a misunderstanding between two rival schools that occurred during the competition.
He revealed that the matter is being taken seriously by the authorities.
The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service has reportedly summoned the Regional Director of Education, along with the heads of the two schools involved, to a meeting to discuss the incident and establish the full facts.
“We should not rush to conclusions,” the DCE said, adding that a meeting is about to be held to determine exactly what transpired.
He assured the public that steps have already been taken and investigations are ongoing.
According to him, any student found to have participated in the assault will face the law after the meeting and investigations are completed.
Hon. Nyamekye also indicated that a full report on the incident will be released once authorities conclude their discussions.
From the preliminary information available, he noted that the two schools involved have a history of rivalry, adding that a similar incident reportedly occurred last year.
