Suhum MP uses Eid ul-Adha message to urge youth to shun hard drugs

As Muslims across Ghana observed Eid ul-Adha with prayers and celebration, the Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr Frank Asiedu Bekoe, popularly known as Protozoa, used the occasion to deliver a powerful message to the youth: stay away from hard drugs.
Addressing congregants at the central prayer grounds in Suhum, the MP commended the Muslim community for their unity, discipline, and devotion during the holy period.
He described Eid ul-Adha as a time of reflection, sacrifice, and spiritual renewal, and praised the role of Islamic values in promoting peace and social cohesion.
However, his remarks took a serious turn as he addressed the rising problem of substance abuse among young people, especially in urban Zongo communities.
He warned that drug addiction threatens not just individual futures but the moral and social fabric of entire communities.
“Eid is a time for sacrifice, obedience, and faith — values that are directly at odds with the dangers of drug abuse,”Mr. Asiedu Bekoe said.
“Our youth must choose purpose over poison. Hard drugs are destroying dreams, tearing families apart, and weakening the future leaders of this nation.”
Against the backdrop of festivity and spiritual reflection, the MP’s message served as a reminder that national development depends on healthy, focused, and morally grounded youth.
He also called on religious leaders, parents, and community elders to intensify their efforts in educating young people on the dangers of drug use and to promote mentorship and positive lifestyle choices.
“Together, let us build a community where the youth are empowered, not enslaved by addiction,” he concluded.
Eid ul-Adha, which commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience and devotion to God, was marked with prayers, the slaughtering of sacrificial animals, and charitable acts, but Hon. Protozoa’s message stood out as a timely call for action to safeguard the future of Ghana’s younger generation
