A 27-year-old man, Mohammed Rafiu, has been convicted and sentenced to prison by the Hohoe Circuit Court for unlawful entry and stealing musical instruments belonging to a church at Hohoe in the Volta Region.

According to a statement from the Volta North Regional Police Command, Rafiu was arrested on June 5, 2026, after he was spotted near the Faith International Ministry Church carrying a sack containing suspicious items.

Eyewitnesses reportedly became alarmed by his behaviour as he attempted to board a vehicle and decided to inspect the contents of the sack.

The inspection revealed several church musical equipment, including one amplifier, one equalizer, one mixer, and a crossover machine.

The items were confirmed to belong to the church, leading to his immediate arrest and subsequent detention at the Hohoe Police District.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the offence.

He was subsequently arraigned before the Hohoe Circuit Court on Monday, June 8, 2026, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful entry and stealing.

The court sentenced him to three years imprisonment for unlawful entry and four years for stealing.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

The Volta North Regional Police Command has urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies for swift action.

Police say the conviction forms part of ongoing efforts to curb theft and other criminal activities in communities across the region.
