A/R: Man, 45, kills wife, poisons himself

A 45-year-old man, Bashirus Kophy, has allegedly poisoned himself after shooting his wife dead at Asuofua Asamang New Site in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 1 August 2021, after a misunderstanding ensued between the couple.
The culprit is said to have refused to pay the bride price of the lover, Afia Vida, though they had children.
A former Assemblymember for the area, Mr Armstrong Mensah, said the woman opted to leave the man for failing to pay her dowry and made the request during a meeting to settle the issue, a day before the incident.
Mr Mensah told Class News’ regional correspondent Elisha Adarkwah that the man, who was not staying with the lover in the same house, stormed her home later and shot her dead.
The suspect then allegedly drank a poisonous potion before he was arrested and sent to the Abuakwa police station and later transferred to the Asuofua police station.
He was sent the hospital after the police detected that he was feeling unwell and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The police at Asuofua has commenced investigations into the incident.
