The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the murder of one Benedicta Pokua Sarpong at the Airport Roundabout in the Kumasi Metropolis.

The incident occurred on Sunday, 13 June 2021, when the victim and her husband were on their way home.

The Public Relations Officer of the Regional Police Command, ASP Godwin Ahianyo, told Class News' Elisha Adarkwah that they received a complaint from the husband of the deceased, Nana Osei Agyemang Prempeh, that his wife had been shot dead by some gunmen when they went out and were on their way home.

Mr Ahianyo said, according to the husband, he and the wife were driving different vehicles and upon reaching the Airport Roundabout, some young men numbering about four, who were in a grey Toyota Camry saloon car, crossed the wife's car, shot her and fled.

She was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) but died while receiving treatment at dawn.

Mr Ahianyo said the gunmen did not take anything from the deceased after the shooting incident and for that reason, he will not rule out contract killing.

He said because of the circumstances of the incident, they are investigating both contract killing and robbery and are picking some information and leads to apprehend the suspects.

Mr Ahianyo said they are also trying to get in touch with the national security secretariat to get footages of CCTV cameras in the area to trace and arrest the suspects.

He said the husband of the deceased has written his statement while other persons who were at the scene of the incident have also been invited to give statements.

No arrest has been made.

Mr Ahianyo also allayed fears that the region is unsafe.
