A/R: Student arrested at Osei Kyeretwie SHS for possession of firearm

The Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old student of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) for unlawful possession of a locally manufactured firearm.
The student, a form Two boarder whose name has been withheld due to his age, was apprehended on Tuesday, May 14, 2025, after school authorities discovered the weapon during a routine search of the student dormitory around 9:30 a.m.
He was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.
According to a police statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, the student claimed during interrogation that the firearm belonged to his stepfather, Mr. Daniel Owusu Baafi.
Police then arrested Mr. Baafi on Thursday, May 15, 2025, in connection with the incident.
Both the student and his stepfather have since been granted police enquiry bail and are scheduled to report to the police on Monday, May 19, 2025, to assist with ongoing investigations.
The arrest has sparked concern among parents and the school community over student safety and the presence of weapons in schools.
Authorities say measures are being taken to ensure the continued security of students and staff.
The case is being handled by the Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command
