The police command has arrested a second suspect in the case in which three males were killed by an architect at Alaska near Abesim in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono Region.

The Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng, made the disclosure when Acting Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, visited the families to sympathise with them at the weekend.

“Two suspects are in our custody”, Supt. Obeng said, adding: “One you are aware of” but the “second one’s name is withheld”.

Additionally, he said: “There are traumatised persons involved in this crime: the affected family members and the community members and even the police officers who are involved in the scene search and investigation”.

“They need to be supported psychologically,” he noted.

The first suspect, 28-year-old Richard Appiah, was arrested by the police on Friday after the bodies were found in his house.

Dr Akuffo Dampare directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, to provide the necessary technical support to Bono Regional CID to investigate the murder.

The victims, all male, include a 12- and 15-year-old.

The police, with the help of the townsfolk, arrested the first suspect.

Dr Dampare, in a statement issued by the police, commended his personnel and the locals for working together to arrest the suspect.

According to the statement, on Friday, one Thomas Adjei, 56, reported that at about 5:30 pm on the same day, his stepson, Richard Appiah, came in for his 12-year-old son, Louis Agyemang Junior, who never returned home.

At about 11 pm, Mr Adjei and his four brothers called for the arrest of the suspect.

The police, together with the complainant and the suspect, proceeded to Richard Appiah’s abode and “surprisingly, the police found the deceased [12-year-old boyd] lying in a supine position in one of the rooms.”

The Crime Scene Management team, led by the Regional Crime officer, Supt. Kennedy Adusei and the Sunyani District Commander, DSP Francis Humado, found a second body cut into pieces and kept in a double-door fridge in one of the rooms.

“The second deceased was identified to police as Stephen Sarpong, aged 15 years.

“The bodies have since been sent to the Mentukwa private mortuary for preservation and autopsy as the regional and municipal mortuaries are full,” the statement added.
