Accra: Police kills three robbers in shootout
The police has shot and killed three notorious armed robbers on their wanted list in a shootout at Opeibea, near airport.
They are Akika Christian Roberts, Alhassan and Alhaji.
Two other accomplices, Abdul Latif, 47; and Prosper Koku, 27; were also arrested on Monday, 9 August 2021.
According to the police, the gang planned to attack and rob a businessman who was to withdraw money from a bank around the airport.
The police said they surveilled the robbers and when they (robbers) showed up, they closed in on them.
Akika Chrisian Robert, who, the police said was armed with a Taurus foreign pistol, shot and wounded one of their colleagues in the shootout but succumbed to police firing power.
The police officer who sustained gunshot wound in the right leg is in a stable condition and currently receiving medical attention while the three dead bodies have been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
The police retrieved the Taurus foreign pistol loaded with 27 rounds of ammunition.
